Xbox had a big event this morning where they showed off a
ton of new games. I don’t plan on buying an Xbox any time soon but luckily
almost every Xbox “exclusive” is available on PC. And I have a good enough PC
to play most games. This event also showed off some actual gameplay of the new Assassin’s
Creed and a bunch of new, non-exclusive games. Let’s take a look.
First up is Bright Memory Infinite, one in a LONG
line of video games with astoundingly bad names. Having said that, this game
looks incredible. Graphically, it is gorgeous, and this short clip of gameplay
has a palpable atmosphere. I’m not generally an FPS guy (I occasionally dabble)
and I have no idea what is going on here, but if the transition from ranged to
melee combat and then into driving is as seamless as it appears here, I am all
the way in. It has no release date, so I expect the game next summer at the
earliest. It’s still going on my list.
Look, I’m a sucker. I haven’t bought Madden in
several years (Shout out to my brother), but I love these games, even if they
are typically average quality games. I will probably buy the new one (On PS5)
but the brief glimpse of gameplay in this trailer looks… Basic. It looks just
like last year’s version. Maybe that’s because this is actually showing the
Xbox One version (The trailer doesn’t specify) but I expected more. Still going
to play it though.
I can tell you nothing about Scarlet Nexus. Not even
if it is an Xbox exclusive. What I can tell you is that that it looks
incredible and appears to be an action game. Also, the monsters are
surprisingly leggy. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is taking the series in a bold
new direct so I think it is going to be a perfect place to jump. After every
previous game in the series being a beat ‘em up, this game is a turn-based RPG.
You see, the new main character is a huge Dragon Quest fan, so he pretends
his fights play out like that. In reality, he’s in a beat ‘em up. In his head,
he’s in a RPG. That’s a brilliant idea. Otherwise, this looks like a Yakuza game,
something people constantly rave about. I am very excited for it.
This is billed as a gameplay
trailer. It is not. There are some snippets of gameplay in it and those look
good. In fact, they look more like traditional AC gameplay mixed with
the Odyssey systems which is exactly what I want. Now, if they could
make the game world a little smaller and remove the loot system, I would be
incredibly excited. Until then, I’m cautiously optimistic
Overall, this appears to be a really interesting slate of
games that I will absolutely not be playing on Xbox. I appreciate Microsoft
giving a look at the games anyway. It might turn out to be a better year for
games than I realized.
