News Roundup 06.09.2021

Hey y’all. News Roundup is back! Just in time to cover the few interesting pieces of news since the last installment prior to E3. I haven’t decided if I will do E3-specific roundups—i.e. a Microsoft one, Square-Enix one, etc.—or save it for a supersized roundup next week; it could be a bit of both. I have a ton of articles in the works and there are three (!) big game releases this week that I am excited to dive into so time may be limited. Keep an eye out either way.

Anyway, the news!

 Jordan Fisher as Bart Allen

The best Flash is finally making his way to the Arrowverse’s flagship program. I know Fisher more from voice work than live action—Shoutout to the absolutely peerless Captain Seahawk—but the fact he is playing one of my favorite characters makes me excited. The official image that’s been released (See above) does not look great though. It is not much to worry about; the Arrowverse has had many such posters and the characters always look better in the shows themselves.

Finn Wittrock is Guy Gardner

Finn Wittrock is a complete unknown to me. Sure, I saw the single episode of Torchwood he was in a decade ago, but that’s about it. He has the Guy Gardner look though. I am still disappointed Guy will be a central character to the upcoming Green Lantern series, but it could interesting. At least it is not Hal Jordan, the anti-character. That provides a baseline of quality.

Astoria Ascending looks sweet

This game looks so cool. The art style is gorgeous. As a bonus, some storied JRPG creators are masterminding it. Thus, it has a high chance of being good. And if it fails, it will likely do so in very weird and interesting ways because Hitoshi Sakimoto and Kazushige Nojima both have some of those on their CVs. No matter what it will look Great! I hope it gets a western release so I can play it.

Blue Reflection Second Light Announced

One day, I will play Blue Reflection. It seems like a cool, unique Gust game. I’m a sucker for day-based games that make you work around a schedule (See also: the Atelier series). And it’s a magical girl game, which rules. Anyway, there is a sequel coming. What little we know about it seems intriguing. I should stress that is an extremely small amount though. With E3 this weekend, there is a chance we learn more soon. Keep your eyes on this space.

Battlefield 2042 is coming

There is a new Battlefield game. It looks very cool. Too bad I will never play it because it is going to be multiplayer-only, an experiment that did not go well for Call of Duty until Warzone. Given 2042 has a 128-player mode, it is setup to be a challenger in the Battle Royale space, but many have attempted to make it big there and few have succeeded. The homage to the original game’s title is really cute though. I like it.
