A few quick updates for the blog before we get started. I am
going to have a review up for the Superman & Lois premiere tomorrow.
I doubt I will be doing weekly reviews, though I may do checkups if something
particularly interesting happens. As promised last week, the weekly Comic
Reviews will be returning from hiatus on Monday. Next week will also the first
of the Kingdom Hearts Retrospective Redux (Working Title) posts, featuring the
OG itself. So, look forward to that.
But I digress, we have news!
Reptil is getting his own miniseries
In the Dark Reign/Age of Heroes era of Marvel, Reptil was a
big deal. He starred in two (related) series about training young heroes. For
real, read Avengers Academy. I promise it is worth your time. I do not
know who Terry Blas and Enid Balam are, but the very idea of this series has me
pumped. It ties into Outlawed, which is interesting. I wonder if they have
Reptil stick around of the Champions going forward given that he is in a
similar mold to those characters.
Flash Cast for Stargirl
John Wesley Shipp is returning to the role of Jay Garrick!
It seems like he will appear in a flashback with other JSA members. It does not
really mean anything, but I’m glad Shipp gets to continue the role; I know he
really loves and cares about it. Maybe I will give Stargirl another. I liked the
first couple episodes well enough.
Supergirl Cast for Flashpoint
If you’re on Twitter and at all follow this stuff, you
probably saw the clip of Sasha Calle discovering she got the role. It was
wonderful. Clearly, she really cares about it. I have no experience with her
work, but I am excited to have another Supergirl given the TV series is ending
soon. I expect her to play a similar role in this movie to what Superman played
in the comic. Should be fun.
On a related note, it is rumored that Calle will be starring
in a Legion of Super-Heroes film as well. I can’t imagine how you work that
team into 120-150 minutes but give it a shot. Maybe it will be a giant hit and
we can get that comic going again. I would really like that.
Rugrats is getting rebooted
I do not know why this exists, but it looks nice and the
original cast is back. I likely will not watch it, but you never know. The clip
they released certainly feels like classic Rugrats. I do wish it was drawn
animation, but that is true for most things. Hopefully its good.
New Returnal trailer
I am here once again to yell about how cool Returnal looks!
And it looks insanely cool. I feel like this trailer gives the best look at
what gameplay looks like thus far and it looks wild. So much happening
at once. It truly looks a logical evolution of Housemarque’s bullet hell roots
and that has me really excited. Everyone should get this when it releases in
April.
Sifu looks neat
This is a 3D beat ‘em up…I think? The trailer is a little
unclear, but that appears to be what it is. Plus, it has a cool aesthetic, so I
am all the way in. I would love to see a little more before it releases some
time this year. I haven’t played Absolver (though I own it) but have
heard it has some really interesting combat ideas. Might play that before Sifu
releases.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits Gets a Release Date!
Earlier on Twitter, I announced my spare energy was going
towards manifesting this. You are welcome. August 21 is the day. I cannot
believe this was supposed to be a launch but had to be pushed back almost a
full year. Either way, this may be the game I am most excited for in 2021.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Announced
Tetsuya Nomura should name every video game. Final Fantasy
VII Remake Intergrade is a top tier name. So, FF7R is getting a PS5
edition with better graphics, a higher framerate, faster load times, and a
photo mode, plus a couple other small updates. It will be a free upgrade if you
own the PS4 game. Intergrade appears to be the name of the DLC, which stars
Yuffie and tells her story during the events of the game. It seems to add two
new playable characters, the aforementioned Yuffie and newcomer Sonon Kusakabe.
This is hype as hell, and I cannot wait to replay the game in June. I was
considering replaying it for a review anyway. Don’t take that as a promise.
Just, maybe expect it, but it might not happen.
