Moving closer to the present, my Supernatural reviews
are returning. Last fall, I planned to do weekly recaps/reviews of the final
season of the show. I did four episodes before realizing that I just wasn’t in
the right headspace to continue while doing the writeup for episode five. I
haven’t watched a single episode since and I want to rectify. Plus, I promised
to finish those reviews and the show is over so I’m running low on excuses. These
will be releasing through early January at a rate of approximately two per
week.
All currently scheduled posts will continue and there will
be some space for new additions. It’s going to be very busy here at Defender of
the Multiverse over the next two months. It will be challenging but I’m excited
to see how it goes. Hope you stick enjoy it.
Wonder Woman releases Christmas on HBO Max and in theaters
Anyone that pays attention to movies and scheduling knew
this would happen. That doesn’t make it unsurprising or radical. Wonder Woman
1984 arriving on HBO Max simultaneous to theatrical release is not the same
as Artemis Fowl or Mulan landing on Disney+. No one, including
Disney, thought the former would make much money and the latter cost $30 on top
of the subscription fee.
This is WB’s biggest movie of the year (excluding, maybe, Tenet).
Obviously, it’s intended to be the killer movie to convince people to
subscribe. We’ll see if that happens but if it’s successful, it could be
industry changing. Everyone is already trying to consolidate all the content
they own onto their streaming services and theaters are on the verge of
eradication during this pandemic. Those facts could combine to complete destroy
theaters.
As for the movie itself, I’m excited that I’ll be able to
watch it upon release as I have access to HBO Max. O hope it is successful because
I want more Wonder Woman movies. I also want theaters to stay around, though,
so I am somewhat conflicted. We’ll see what happens, I guess.
Black Lightning Cancelled
The upcoming fourth season of Black Lightning will be
it’s last. That’s sad. This show is so refreshingly different among both the
Arrowverse shows and the wider CW slate. There is a spinoff about Painkiller
being developed. I have no idea who asked for that, but I will probably check
it out.
Between this, the end of Arrow, the upcoming end of Supergirl,
and the rumored end of Legends of Tomorrow, the Arrowverse is on the
verge of huge change. I do wonder if the slate will be quite so expansive going
forward. We know the aforementioned Painkiller show is being worked on, as is a
Wonder Girl series that’s seemingly based on Yara Flor. Plus, Stargirl has
officially moved to the channel. I’m not sure what that indicates for the direction
of the universe going forward but it’s kind of exciting. I’ll have to mourn
some of my favorites first though.
The World Ends With You is getting an Anime and Sequel Game
13 years later, The World Ends With You is getting a sequel. Or prequel, its unclear. Cleverly titled Neo: The World Ends With You, this game will be on both PS4 and Switch and stars a mostly new cast of characters. Despite having some huge problems with the original, I’m eager to see what happens with this game. Hopefully, they make the combat good this time.
For those of you that haven’t played the original TWEWY,
there’s an anime adaptation coming in April. It will, at the very least, have a
distinctive look as the art style of the source material is one of its
strongest aspects. Also, the anime means you don’t have to dig up a DS or
Switch—or, if you’re brave, attempt to play the phone version. I can’t wait for
more people to discover this very fun story. Please check it out.
