Blog Update: First Anniversary

We made it, y’all. One year of blogging. Technically, the blog's first anniversary was last week, but my first post was 14 January so we’re celebrating today. Either way, I can’t believe we made it this long. I had been considering starting a blog for years and finally made the jump. And I’m so happy I did. It has completely reignited my love for entertainment media.

I had recently gotten back into comics when I started the blog. Although, I had been following what was happening to some degree for the two or so years since I stopped reading. And what a time to come back! Jonathon Hickman is back at Marvel and has unleashed his weird esoteric graphs upon the X-Men. Geoff Johns' Watchmen sequel has come to a conclusion and has transformed the way the DC multiverse functions. The Power Rangers comics are, somehow, the most consistent comics out there. Wally West is a mass murderer. It's great.

I am, however, watching much less television than I was before but I’m enjoying a higher percentage of what I am watching. It’s mostly the CW which is exactly the melodramatic stuff I crave. There’s a few anime series I’ve watched/am watching that have been fantastic (Expect an anime post at some point in the near future). Also HBO had a big, weird year. Game of Thrones ended and it was…not well received. You can check out my episode recaps, some of which I’m proud of and some of which I find embarrassing. I’m going to keep them up to chart my progression as a writer. There is no comparison between those and my Crisis on Infinite Earths recaps though. HBO also released Watchmen which will feature in my 2019 retrospective post at the end of the week.

In lieu of television, movies are back in my life. Feeling films I loved (Marriage Story, Little Women) to films I was disappointed in (Star Wars, Spider-Man) I saw quite a few.  The Golden Globes were last week and they were, as always, extremely weird. Oscar nominations have also been released and I can’t wait to write about those (Check out my Twitter for immediate reactions).

Video games also came out in 2019. Unfortunately, I didn’t play many of them. Most of my year was spent getting through my backlog. Of course, Kingdom Hearts 3, the mother of all games, was released and it was excellent. Far from perfect, but excellent. Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the other huge release I played and, while I haven’t finished it, I can tell this is going to be one of my favorite games in the series. Also, Football Manager continues to eat my time and it will probably never stop.

But enough about last year. Let’s talk Year 2. First, my comic review articles are going to continue as I try to keep them from becoming too long and unwieldy. Second, Crisis is set to air it’s final two episodes tonight. They will get individual recaps, one tomorrow and one the following day. Arrow's final two episodes will also receive their own posts, as will the Arrowverse midseason premieres. I have to catch up on my Supernatural recaps and those will also continue for the final season.

In the coming months, Game of Thrones will be getting a retrospective post, as will Kingdom Hearts 3 once I complete the Re:MIND DLC. As for movie reviews, there isn’t much on the horizon but I think that will change as I see more of them and want to write about them. I also have some things I'm coming up that are too early in development to discuss. So I'm just going to tease them for now.

Also, my podcast with my friend Reid will continue. Looks like it’s going to be monthly, at least for the time being. We’re going to talk all manner of things that interest us. Please check it out and leave some feedback. And feel free to do that on the blog as well. My comments are open.

Thanks y’all,
Alex
